Day 164 - Team Cannistraro Walks for Hope

This weekend Team Cannistraro will be participating in the 3rd Annual HopeWalks event at Newton Wellesley Hospital. (Today's photo is from the same event back in 2010). The event includes a 3.5 mile walk around the perimeter of the hospital, and raises money for the Vernon Cancer Center. Cannistraro has been a long-time supporter of the efforts of Newton Wellesley Hospital's Charitable Foundation, and JCC's employee-organized, philanthropic endeavor, Team Cannistraro, is excited to walk! Thanks for your efforts and good luck!

Day 163 - Throwback Thursday: Early BIM Edition

In today's post we take you back to 2007, when Cannistraro was coordinating, prefabricating and installing the mechanical systems at 650 Kendall Square. This laboratory project got underway just as the AEC industry in Greater Boston was getting its feet wet with advanced BIM. Although the company began exploring BIM in the early 2000s, this project resulted in some of the detailed, fully-coordinated 3D models to date. Today's screen shot depicts the rooftop air handling units, associated piping, supports and penthouse mechanical room.

Day 162 - Assembling Modular Prefab

In the ongoing efforts across the industry to make construction leaner, design teams and contractors are looking for ways to go modular. We've documented our modular efforts at the Ames Hotel and Genzyme's Biologic Support Center, but there are many new projects just taking off that are exploring these concepts as well. Today we uncovered a great photo of one component of a multi-trade utility rack being assembled at Cannistraro's manufacturing facility in Wilmington, MA.

Day 161 - Coordination Details

At any given moment during the week, a photo like this one can be taken in any of Cannistraro's Coordination bullpens. These two experienced Coordinators are going over a plumbing detail on a multi-trade project for John Moriarty & Associates. Cannistraro has a long, successful track record with JMA and is currently working with the esteemed GC at Longwood Center, and the Watermark and Charlesview Residences.

Day 160 - Advertising & PR

Today's post is a sneak peak at a new ad running in the Professional Contractor (a magazine insert to the Banker & Tradesmen). In the ad we feature Cannistraro's large prefabrication efforts at Boston's new "Innovation District." In fact, the Innovation District is the topic of the magazine's cover story. We're also providing a link to the online issue where you can read interesting articles from two Cannistraro contributors: issuu.com/thewarrengroup/docs/final?mode=window&backg...

Day 159 - LEEDing the Way

Earlier this year we dedicated a week's worth of blog posts to the Genzyme project in Framingham, MA. Today we share a picture of the Genzyme World Headquarters building in Cambridge, MA, which was a project we completed back in the early 2000s. Cannistraro performed the Plumbing, HVAC and Fire Protection on this project. As the photo shows, this project yielded a a stunning LEED Platinum building; one of the first few Platinum ratings in the city.

Day 158 - Throwback Thursday: Build Boston 2007

Each fall, the Boston Society of Architects puts on its annual conference and trade show for AEC professionals from all over New England. This year, the trade show is being called the Architecture Boston Expo (ABx), and our own Operations Manager will be presenting on panel about IPD collaboration. For this installment of Throwback Thursday we came across a photo of a Cannistraro representative demonstrating the value of BIM to intrigued architecture students. Taken at Build Boston 2007, BIM had not quite been fully adopted throughout in the industry but JCC was ahead of the curve.

Day 157 - Industry Leadership

Cannistraro takes the initiative to be a leader in the mechanical construction industry in many ways. For the past year and a half, company Executive Vice President David Cannistraro has been serving as President of the Associated Subcontractors of Massachusetts (ASM). This organization is a vital resource that provides continuing education and political representation for trade subcontractors. In today's photo from early 2012, ASM President Dave C. introduces guest speakers/former NFL stars Joe Andruzzi and Rosevelt Colvin.

Day 156 - Schedule a Tour at the Plumbing Museum

From time to time we like to remind our readers of a philanthropic effort that we (as a plumbing contractor) believe strongly in: The Plumbing Museum. The Cannistraro family played a huge role in stewarding this museum since its move to Watertown. In today's photo, we thought we'd introduce you to Linda, the Museum Event Coordinator. If you haven't stopped by the museum for a free tour, you should call to make an appointment ASAP. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn at the Plumbing Museum! http://www.theplumbingmuseum.org

Day 154 - Plumbing Coordinators

Throughout the spring and summer, various renovations were being made to the offices at Cannistraro headquarters. In the spring we covered the new space occupied by the Cannistraro Service Group. Last month, the Plumbing Department expanded its space as well, giving Coordinators and Detailers a comfortable new workplace for the many ongoing projects including the Broad Institute, Watermark II, Waterside Place and the Novartis Cambridge Campus Expansion.

Day 152 - Cogeneration Power

In the past couple of months we've covered the DCAM Energy Upgrade projects underway in Danvers and Wrentham, MA at great lengths. With each passing week these projects get increasingly more interesting...as demonstrated in today's photo. The photo documents the arrival and installation of the energy-saving Cogeneration unit. If you take a closer look you can see the sound-reducing enclosure that will surround the machinery once fully installed. We'll continue to keep you posted as the project nears completion.

Day 151 - In Honor of Today

It's hard to believe but today marks the 11th anniversary of the horrific events of 09/11/01. There is no more appropriate photo for today's post than that of an American flag. In this case, the flag waves in front of the new MassArt Residences (a Cannistraro project). Please take a moment to reflect upon this day eleven years ago, and today we are prouder than ever to say God Bless America.

Day 150 - BIM at Logan Airport

Cannistraro's very first project was for the Massachusetts Port Authority at Logan Airport. Today, nearly 50 years later, the company is still performing work at Logan on a regular basis. Today's image is a BIM screen shot from an HVAC equipment upgrade project for the airport's Terminal E that began in 2011.

Day 149 - Charlestown Navy Yard

Seeing as today is the 149th day of blog posts in our Building with Intelligence 365 project, it is only fitting that we share a photo from the Charlestown Navy Yard Building 149 project. Cannistraro performed an Air Handling Unit replacement project for Partners Healthcare at Mass. General Hospital's Charlestown facility. This interesting photo from the Winter of 2008 shows the newly installed prefabricated HVAC piping that would soon service the new AHU.

Day 148 - Networking with AEC's Emerging Leaders

Cannistraro is a proud member firm of the Massachusetts Building Congress. Last night many of our own emerging leaders were in attendance for the inaugural meeting of the 20:30 Club. Our own Laura Cannistraro co-chairs this exciting, new sub-group of the MBC that enables AEC professionals in their 20s and 30s to build a network of colleagues, clients and friends in the industry.

Day 147 - It all Starts with Estimating

Today's post includes a cool photo (featuring employees both past and present) taken in the middle of the Cannistraro Estimating Department. Estimating is always one of the busiest places within JCC walls and rightfully so. After all, all of the work we're awarded is looked at in great detail by our team of talented Estimators. For many young employees, Estimating is a common first stop for learning the ropes of the construction business.

Day 146 - Toilet Batteries

One of the most commonly prefabricated areas of a building's plumbing infrastructure are the toilet rooms. Today we share a great photo of a prefabricated assembly that will ultimately result in working toilets and urinals, or as we like to call it: a "Toilet Battery."
