Day 320 - A View from the Seaport Streets

Summer weather has arrived in Boston just in time for the weekend. In fact, many people will likely spend time in Boston's thriving, revitalized Seaport District where so many new construction projects are under way. One such project, Waterside Place, is really coming along. In fact, passers by along the streets of the Seaport (more specifically in front of the Renaissance Waterfront Hotel where this photo was taken), are currently seeing this progress first hand. Cannistraro is the specialty contractor delivering Plumbing, HVAC and Fire Protection on this high-rise, multi-family residence.

Representatives from Cannistraro and Cannistraro Service Group were proud to be in attendance as they rooted for the Hogan-Wrentham project...a nominee for Best Large Project for 2013.

Day 318 - Boston Construction & Development

Yes, that's a Cannistraro hard hat on the emcee of this morning's BISNOW Construction and Development Summit held at the historic Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Among the topics of discussion being thrown around by a panel of the area's top developers were the need for prefabrication, modularization and early collaboration with contractors and subcontractors....all perfect topics to come up in an event sponsored by J.C. Cannistraro!

Day 316 - Safety Week 2013

Today's photo comes compliments of one of Cannistraro's Assistant Project Managers on the Novartis Cambridge Campus Expansion project. In honor Safety Week 2013 last week, Skanska and the rest of the project team gave team members the opportunity to take a fun photo in front of a green screen of the job site in return for an actual photo of someone working safely on site. Kudos on this creative way to promote the importance of working safely!

Day 314- BIM at the Shop

Today's photo shows a different side of BIM. In this photo we see a Cannistraro employee at the pre-fab shop in Wilmington using BIM to prepare for prefabrication using the automated welding machines located right outside of his door. The technology used in prefabrication is rapidly improving and expanding and Cannistraro has been taking advantage of that all along the way.

Day 313 - Lucky Numbers

Today's unassuming photo of the parking lot at Cannistraro's Watertown, MA headquarters is significant because of the building seen across the way. In honor of day 313 of posts on this blog, we celebrate Mr. C's favorite lucky number "3-1-3" with a look at the 313 Pleasant Street Building (home to the Cannistraro Service Group). In fact, this photo was even taken looking out the window of Mr. C's office!

Day 312 - Hope is around the Corner

For the past year we've covered the progress of the Mirebalais Hospital project in Haiti; a cause that was very important to everyone here at J.C. Cannistraro. While our firm's role has been played on the ground in Haiti, we are impressed with what we've seen and experienced. John Cannistraro, Jr. visited the site of the new Mirebalais Hospital at the end of April for the fourth time, and when he returned, he shared stories of hope. The beautiful landscape seen in today's photo conveys this hope in the form of an open air healing garden within this beautiful state-of-the-art hospital.

Day 311- Recaping Cambridge Center

Today's photo is from an interview of the Project Manager and Foremen for the Cambridge Center Capital Improvements project. Cannistraro worked on HVAC improvements including boilers and cooling towers for buildings 3, 4 and 5 at Cambridge Center. The most interesting thing about this project is how the Layout Foreman, Kevin (front right in the photo) produced hand-drawn sketches for every part of the buildings' mechanical infrastructure before Cannistraro began work. In some cases, these sketches went directly to the pre-fab shop for construction. Technology is important but sometimes doing it by hand is necessary and in those cases we see the human side of technology.

Day 310 - World Class Healthcare Facilities

Recent headlines have really reminded us here in the Boston area just how lucky we are to have the absolute best hospitals in the world right in our back yard. Driving through the West End of the city of Boston yesterday, and seeing the bustling Mass. General campus really drove that point home. In homage to that sentiment, today's photo is the road view of MGH (a longstanding Cannistraro customer), where you can see the state-of-the-art Lunder Building rising from the middle of the hospital campus. On the other side of that building is Storrow Drive and Boston's iconic Charles River.

Day 306 - Throwback Thursday - Haiti: Then & Now

In a company-wide meeting being held tomorrow to share the progress that was made on the Mirebalais Hospital project, we came across this stunning comparison photo. In the fall of 2010 Partners in Health (and others) broke ground on a new, world-class teaching hospital in the Central Plateau of Haiti. Countless project partners came to the rescue to help fund and build this beautiful facility and Cannistraro is both proud and honored to have been part of the team. John Cannistraro, Jr. recently attended the opening ceremony for the hospital where he took the bottom photo of the finished product. Congratulations to all those involved!

Day 305 - Words from our Founder

Over the past few weeks we've taken you behind the scenes of an upcoming video production that's being put together in conjunction with Cannistraro's 50th anniversary. Yesterday was the last day of filming and we wrapped with none other than the Founder himself, "Mr. C." (John Cannistraro, Sr). Today we take a look at Mr. C in the big chair as he was asked about the Plumbing business today versus in 1963 as well as the principles with which he ran his company.

Day 300- Outside 225 Binney

Yesterday we showed you pictures of the inside of Biogen Idec's new building in Cambridge's world-renowned scientific research center. Today we show you a photo from the outside of this incredible building. If you happen to drive down to this are you will notice quite a bit of construction going on. This is a good sign for scientists and construction workers alike. Cannistraro is proud to be a part of this blooming scientific epicenter.
