The Genzyme Biologics Support Center project could have been a case study for lean mechanical construction methods. Cannistraro modeled and prefabricated custom-built utility racks of laboratory plumbing and medical gas piping. Wheels were welded directly to each rack for easy, mobile delivery and installation. As many as a dozen lines of piping were included on each rack, and each truckload of assemblies accounted for a half-floor of piping.
